Apply for Credit Card online

Credit cards are important financial instruments that come with a variety of advantages. They make everyday shopping easier by allowing users to make purchases now and settle the bill later, which can improve cash flow management. Moreover, using credit cards responsibly helps establish a strong credit history, which is crucial for obtaining loans and better interest rates down the line.
Many credit cards also feature rewards programs that provide cashback and points for spending, which can be exchanged for travel or products. Additionally, they offer enhanced security against fraud, providing protections that debit cards do not, making them a more secure payment choice.

Do's & Don'ts for Credit Cards

Basic guidelines to avoid high-interest debt & enjoy secure payments, cashless transactions, rewards & cashback offers with Axis Bank Credit Cards.

Do's

  • Choose Wisely: Axis Bank offers a range of credit cards designed to cater to your varied interests and requirements. Research thoroughly, considering factors such as prevailing interest rates, additional fees, the limit on your credit card, rewards, cashback and other offers tailored to your spending habits before making a decision.

  • Mind the Terms: Before applying, understand the terms and conditions. Some cards have no annual fees, while others waive fees based on spend thresholds. Be aware of first-year waivers and subsequent charges.

  • Stay Updated: Stay informed about any credit card interest rate changes from your bank, and track your payments accordingly.

  • Full Repayment: Aim to clear your entire credit card balance each month. This cultivates responsible spending habits and contributes to a positive credit score.

  • EMI Option: If unable to pay in full, convert transactions into EMIs for regular repayment, saving on interest and penalties.

  • Utilization Ratio:The percentage of credit that you use out of your total available credit is called the Utilization Ratio. It is advisable to keep credit utilization at 30-40% of the limit for a favorable credit report.

  • Payment Monitor: Stay vigilant about due dates and credit periods to prevent delays or defaults.

  • Secure your card: In case of loss or theft, immediately block your card to prevent unauthorized use.

  • Report your fraud: If you notice unauthorized transactions, swiftly report to your bank to address any issues.

Don'ts

  • Mindless Spending: Avoid mindless spending to prevent hefty debts.

  • Minimum Repayments: Don't settle for minimum payments; they lead to high balances.

  • Excessive Applications: Avoid excess card applications to preserve your credit history.

  • Uncontrolled Usage: Refrain from maxing out your limit; it harms your credit score.

  • Cash Withdrawal: Avoid withdrawal of cash using Credit Cards to avoid additional fees or interest payments.

Frequently Asked Questions

A Credit Card allows you to borrow money for your purchases and is like a short-term loan from a bank. Also known as plastic money, you can use this card to buy things and have the option to pay the borrowed money back all at once or in smaller amounts over time. However, if you don't pay the full amount right away, you are charged an extra amount on it in the form of interest.

The credit card limit, which is set by the bank, represents the maximum amount you can spend using your credit card. It is determined by considering various factors such as income, age, credit history, credit score, liabilities, etc. It is essential to ensure that the total expenditure, including fees, stays within this predetermined limit. Initially, new credit card users might receive lower limits because the bank is not familiar with their spending and repayment habits. While the credit card limit can be increased, the decision ultimately rests with the bank."

A request for Credit Limit enhancement can be placed in the below ways:
a. Axis Mobile App: Login > Credit Card > Select Card > Total Controls > Check for Limit increase
You can place a request if your Credit Card is eligible else you will receive a prompt that your Credit Card is currently not eligible for Limit enhancement
b. Internet Banking: Login > Accounts > My Credit Cards > Limit Enhancement > Check for Limit increase
You can place a request if your Credit Card is eligible else you will receive a prompt that your Credit Card is currently not eligible for Limit enhancement.

The minimum amount due on a credit card represents a mandatory partial payment of the total outstanding bill, required when the entire bill amount cannot be paid.

This amount is usually fixed at 2% of the total outstanding balance, calculated based on the credit card statement issued.

The credit card limit is the maximum amount you can spend on your credit card and is set by the bank. The total amount spent, including the fees, should be within this limit. Factors like income, age, credit history, credit score, liability etc. determine your credit card limit. Typically, first-time credit card holders are offered lower limits as the bank is not familiar with your spending and repayments habits. Your credit limit can be increased, but the discretion to do so remains with the bank. Yes, using a credit card can impact your credit score positively or negatively, depending on how you manage it. Here’s how:

Positive impact:

  • Timely payments: Paying your credit card bills on or before the due date improves your credit history and boosts your score.
  • Low credit utilization: Keeping your spending well below your credit limit (ideally under 30%) shows responsible usage.
  • Long-term usage: Maintaining a credit card account for a long time adds to your credit history length, which is good for your score.
  •

Negative impact:

  • Late or missed payments: Delays in payment can significantly reduce your score and attract penalties.
  • High credit utilization: Consistently using most of your credit limit may signal financial stress and lower your score.
  • Multiple new cards: Applying for too many cards in a short period can lead to hard inquiries, which may temporarily reduce your score.
  •

Key Tip:

Using a credit card responsibly is one of the easiest ways to build and maintain a healthy credit score. Always pay on time and keep your utilization low.

How to choose the best Credit Card?

The best way to choose your Credit Card depends on understanding your spending pattern in terms of where you spend the most of your income, and where you are likely to spend more. Is it shopping, dining, entertainment, fuel, travel or a combination of these categories? The ideal or best Credit Card for you therefore would be the one that is tailored to your requirements in terms of your spending habits, lifestyle goals and the credit limit you are seeking. The ultimate aim is to optimise available rewards and benefits while also considering applicable fees and interest rates.

If you are a first time Credit Card holder, consider the following factors before choosing your Credit Card:

  • Monthly expenses: Choose a Credit Card whose limit is close to your monthly expenses. If you have a lower credit limit, prioritise only the payments which should be made through your Credit Card.
  • Rewards & Points: You could also select a Credit Card that offers certain additional benefits such as cashback and discounts on your purchases or complimentary access to airport lounges.
  • Card control: Choose the card issuer based on how easy it is to manage the Credit Card especially on the mobile app or website. You should be able to manage spend limit, international usage, set the PlN, view payment history & statements, block & replace card, among other features.
  • Card offers: Apart from offers from brands and merchants, card issuers also offer other benefits such as converting spends into EMIs, availing instant loans, upgrading card limit, getting an add-on card for your family members, and much more.
  • Card fees and charges: Credit Cards will have slightly different interest rates depending on the issuer that offers the card. Therefore, always compare the fees and interest rates before you choose a Credit Card.

Things to know before applying for a Credit Card

If you are a first time Credit Card holder or are planning to apply for one, here’s what you should know before choosing your Credit Card:

  • Monthly spends: Select a Credit Card whose credit limit aligns closely with your monthly spending.
  • Maximising benefits: Reap maximum benefits by choosing a Credit Card that offers certain additional benefits such as cashback and discounts on your purchases or complimentary access to airport lounges.
  • Credit Card eligibility: If you have applied for an Axis Bank Credit Card, your eligibility will depend largely on the following factors: 1. Age 2. Income 3. Residential status (whether you are an Indian resident or NRI). You will have to show documents as proof of the above mentioned eligibility conditions. Documents required will include - Age and Residential proof (PAN card, Aadhaar card, Passport or Driver’s license), income proof (Salary slips or Income Tax Returns). Additionally, the bank may also look at your credit score and credit history to determine if you are eligible for a Credit Card.
  • Fees and Charges: Credit Cards have certain fees that vary depending on the card variant you hold. Some common Credit Card fees include joining fees, annual fees, late payment fees, over-limit penalties, cash withdrawal fees, rent transaction fees, foreign currency transaction fees, etc.
  • Interest Rates: If you repay your Credit Card dues in full every month, before the due date, then you don’t have to pay an interest rate on your Credit Card outstanding amount. But if you carry forward any amount of your Credit Card due, then you do incur an interest rate on the pending amount. This interest rate on Credit Cards is typically between 3% and 4% monthly.
