To ensure that you avail the best possible ATM banking services with Axis Bank, please note the following ATM banking important information. Before using any ATM service, privy yourself to the ATM banking info as given below.

Make sure you collect your cash, for it is not retractable.

  • As per the RBI guidelines, it is mandatory to remove the 'cash retract' feature from all ATMs.
  • In line with the RBI directive, we have taken out the ‘Cash Retraction’ facility from all our ATMs.
  • Do not forget to collect your cash as the cash will not be retracted in the ATM machine and will remain in the mouth of the ATM till the time it is collected.
  • Customers are advised that they should collect their cash as soon as it is dispensed, otherwise someone else might take it.

Revised ATM transaction limits.

  • We have revised the number of free ATM transactions available to you at Axis Bank & Non-Axis Bank ATMs which will be applicable with effect from 1st Dec '14.
  • The transaction limits have been revised taking into account the high cost of operation & maintenance of our growing ATM network. Your new limits have been designed based on ATM usage patterns and will provide you sufficient free access to your account.
  • You can continue to transact using your Axis Bank debit card without any charges, for POS transactions at merchant outlets. You can also use Internet & Mobile Banking for making payments, transferring funds (Standard NEFT & RTGS charges apply), etc.

Automated Teller Machine is a computerized machine that provides the customers of banks the facility of accessing their accounts for dispensing cash and to carry out other financial transactions without the need of actually visiting a bank branch.

ATM cards/debit cards, credit cards and prepaid cards (that permit cash withdrawal) can be used at ATMs for various transactions.

In addition to cash dispensing, ATMs may have many services/facilities including:

  • Account information
  • Cash deposit
  • Regular bills payment
  • Mini/Short statement

The services offered may vary depending on the capacity of the machine to provide such services.

For transacting at an ATM, the customer inserts (swipes) their card in the ATM and enters their Personal Identification Number (PIN).

You can generate PIN for your credit card by visiting any Axis Bank ATM. The step by step process is given below:

A) For customers who are generating their credit card PIN for the first time

  • Step 1: Insert your Axis Bank Credit Card at any Axis Bank ATM and select “Set PIN” option on the screen. For first time users, the ATM screen will display another screen showing a “Generate OTP” option.
  • Step 2: Once the card is inserted, the card number will be captured by the ATM machine but on the next screens, you will be prompted to enter account details* (date of birth, card expiry, and registered mobile number) and activation passcode/OTP received on your registered mobile number. Enter the activation passcode/OTP as requested.
  • Step 3: On successful entry of the above details, you will be prompted to set your desired PIN on the next screen and re-confirm the same.
  • You shall receive a confirmation message on your registered mobile number from Axis Bank once your PIN is successfully generated.

B) For customers who have generated OTP/activation passcode and have not generated Credit card PIN.

  • Step 1: Insert your Axis Bank Credit Card at any Axis Bank ATM and select “Set PIN” option on the screen. For users who already have a valid OTP received on their registered mobile number, the ATM screen will display another screen showing a “Set pin having an OTP” option.
  • Step 2: Customer will be asked to enter the activation passcode/OTP which had been received on the registered mobile number. Enter the activation passcode/OTP as requested.
  • Step 3: On successful entry of the above details, you will be prompted to set your desired PIN on the next screen and re-confirm the same.
  • You shall receive a confirmation message on your registered mobile number from Axis Bank once your PIN is successfully generated.

Please note:

  • To use this functionality, your mobile number and date of birth must be registered with us. Please contact your nearest Axis Bank branch for registering these details if not registered already.
  • *For Joint account holders, details as per Primary account holder (date of birth, card expiry and registered mobile number) need to be provided on the ATM screen to set a PIN for the Joint account holder.
  • Activation passcode/OTP will be received on customer’s registered mobile number and will be valid for 3 hours or one-time-usage, whichever is earlier.

Yes. The cards issued by banks in India can be enabled for use at any bank’s ATM within India.

PIN is the unique numeric password for use at the ATM. The PIN is separately mailed/handed over to the customer by the bank while issuing the card. This PIN must be reset to a new PIN by the customer. The PIN number should not be written on the card, cardholder, etc. In such cases, the card can be misused if it is lost/stolen.

The customer may contact the card-issuing bank branch and apply for retrieval/issuance of a new card. This procedure is applicable even if the card is sucked in at another banks’ ATM.

The customer may contact the card-issuing bank immediately on noticing the loss so as to enable the bank to block such cards.

Yes, the bank sets limit for cash withdrawal by customers. The cash withdrawal limit for use at the
ATM of the issuing bank is set by the bank during the issuance of the card, and may depend on the type of account/card.
For cash withdrawals at other banks’ ATMs, banks have decided to maintain a limit of ₹10,000 per transaction.

No charges are payable for using other banks' ATMs for cash withdrawal and balance inquiry, as RBI has made it free under its "Free ATM access policy" since April 01, 2009. But banks can restrict the number of such free transactions to a maximum of five per month. For transactions beyond this number, banks can charge a maximum of ₹20 per transaction.

The customer may lodge a complaint with the card-issuing bank. This process is applicable even if the transaction was carried out at another bank’s ATM.

As per the RBI instructions, banks may re-credit such wrongly debited amounts within a maximum period of 5 calendar days.

Yes. Effective from October 15, 2019, banks shall have to pay customers ₹100 per day for delays beyond 5 calendar days. This shall have to be credited to the customer's account without any claim being made by the customer.

For all such complaints, customer may lodge a complaint with the local Banking Ombudsman if the bank does not respond.
