Here are the easy steps you can follow to file a cybercrime FIR for elderly parents or any fraud victim in India:
1: Collect proof
If you are wondering how to complain about online frauds in India, then the first step is to take screenshots of scam messages, emails, fake links, or suspicious calls as proof of the crime. Save payment receipts, UPI IDs, and transaction numbers, if needed. Write down the fraudster’s phone number, email, or social media handle.
2: File it online
Visit cybercrime.gov.in and choose “Women/Child Cybercrime” or “Other Cybercrime”. Fill in your personal details, describe the nature of the fraud, upload all the evidence you’ve gathered, and hit submit. Save the complaint ID for future perusal.
3: Call 1930
Dial 1930 right away in case of a financial fraud. Speak to the cybercrime agent and share all the necessary details clearly. Follow the given instructions to freeze your affected account or stop the transaction, if possible.
4: Go to the police
Head to the nearest police station and ask the officer to file a Zero FIR. This type of an FIR is valid even outside the jurisdiction of any one particular police station. Submit all the necessary documents as evidence and collect a copy of the duly filed and stamped FIR for easy reference.
5: Alert the bank
Call your bank at the earliest and ask them to block the affected debit card and account. Report the fraud and submit the filed copy of the FIR, as advised. Most banks provide round-the-clock support for such cases of fraud.
