Dharmesh Gandhi was quite excited. He had been planning this trip for long and had made all preparations. All that was left was for his wife, Richa, to choose the destination.
Dharmesh and Richa got married in late 2019. Dharmesh works in the marketing department of an Indian firm and Richa is a junior doctor with a large hospital. The initial few months were blissful. Then the pandemic struck. Dharmesh’s company instituted a 25% salary cut, while Richa worked 15-16 hours daily. These two years were stressful, but the couple managed to survive.
Now that the pandemic had receded, Dharmesh was very keen to take his wife for a long-deserved holiday. This would be the couple’s first overseas trip. To prepare for it, Dharmesh had ensured that all the dues on his Axis Bank credit card were paid up. After all, he could use his Axis Bank Credit Card anywhere in the world, and it offered him several attractive deals and loyalty points.
He had also acquired an Axis Bank Forex card on which he could load with up to 16 currencies. Apart from various exclusive offers, the biggest attraction for Dharmesh was that he could get discounted exchange rates locked in when applying or loading more money.
To be sure that he wouldn’t disappoint Richa if something she wanted to buy was out of their budget, he had even got a personal loan sanctioned from Axis Bank. The Bank offered him very competitive rates and the loan came with minimum documentation.
With all these preparations, Dharmesh showed Richa the five destinations that he had shortlisted. The idea was to stay within their budget while maximising the fun they could have. The places Dharmesh had shortlisted were:
Among the most visited country in the world, Turkey straddles Asia and Europe and is full of historical places, cultural heritage and natural wonders. Dharmesh pointed out that he and Richa could visit the Hagia Sophia, the iconic church converted to a mosque, take a hot air balloon flight in Cappadocia, almost a fairy tale destination of magnificent beauty, enjoy the hot water pools in Pamukkale and cruise over the Bosphorus.

Vietnam is a fascinating country with a rich history, cultural heritage, natural vistas, excellent food and memorials to the wars that this fiercely independent nation fought against viz. two superpowers – France and USA, over 25 years. Dharmesh told Richa they could visit Hanoi, the capital, Ho Chi Minh City, Hue in the centre of the nation with its ancient ruins, and go for an overnight cruise on the Halong Bay.

Food, fun, frolic and great shopping – all at a budget – what is not to like about Thailand? Among the most visited countries for budget travellers, it has everything that makes a perfect holiday – beaches with turquoise waters, nightlife, mountain trekking and fantastic deals on shopping, especially made-to-measure clothes. The legendary Thai cuisine is just the proverbial cherry on top.
